... J.D.,
a 63-year-old investment banker from Dallas, Texas
had spent the last 25 years with Canadian Mountain
Holidays, helicopter skiing in British Columbia at
Christmas through New years with family. When he
called me, , he indicated he would have to abandon
skiing because of his knees. I was his last hope as
he had been told that a total knee prosthesis would
never allow him to return to any significant level
of skiing. As I am well known to C. M.H. as the
heliskiing senior orthopedic surgeon, J.D. came for
consultation. His minimally invasive, bilateral,
unicondylar knee replacements were undertaken in
June. In late August, he traveled to South America
for trout fishing walking down a river in waders. In
October, he sent me pictures from Alaska where he
traveled for the Steelhead run, and he booked his
Christmas through new years week per usual and
customary having enjoyed restoration of full pain
free, unlimited function.
Since having performed a unicompartmental knee
replacement on D.T. in 2003, he logged several
million vertical feet skiing in deep powder. When
the arthritis under his knee cap had progressed to
the point of intolerance, last Spring I converted
his Uni to a mobile bearing total knee prosthesis.
He spent the Christmas and New Year of 2008/09 back
at the mountaintop... Video Link
